Pedala, pedala, e pedala. A bike blog

Yikes, Sud and DG are tearing up the road, or rollers, or whatever. What a difference a bit of inspiration makes. I'd be at it more seriously if I was facing Campo and Blockhaus in April. Then Sud is on to the 9 colli in May! Might never be able to ride with him again. And check out DG's OCA schedule! He's after my HCC Best-All-Round title, Bastardo.

Typical week for me this past one. Skating Monday and Tuesday (pick-up hockey, lots of ice time, lots of heavy breathing) and Saturday (Matthew's team practice. Not so much heavy breathing). Hit the spinning bike on Sunday, same deal as last weekend, almost an hour of 5 spinning/5 mashing/10 heavy climbing intervals. God I hate mashing, where's that DG chap when you need him. And 10 minutes of heavy climbing had me hurting! Blockhaus is going to be fun for DG and Sud.

Winter is getting old. I want to get the C 40 out again and put the spinner away for the summer. Then we'll see what a diffence 6 lbs. makes. And who says I can't buy my way out of them? I have a team at NASA forming a joint task force with Signor Colnago's best men, as we speak. Trouble is, by the time the report is out and HQ has approved the financing the problem will be 7 or 8 lbs. Better I cut back on the beer and chicken wings, a bit.

Only a 1/2 hour of MTB this week, but 7-8k of running each day. This weekend will be dedicated to family, but with a little luck I should be able to squeeze in a 10k run. Next week the plan is to dust off the road hog and turn those cranks. I really miss it. I will keep you posted.

Wow, DG that's quite a schedule. You are only missing a European classic and perhaps a stage race or two. (Don't tell me that your objective is not the World Championships in the fall....).

My first date is with you in April, although with all the snow they are getting there right now we might consider skiing instead. After that I have a 20k run in Bari in the begining of May, the Nove Colli, GF Alberobello. These are my objectives, but there are a series of other races (gran fondi) I could do at a moments notice if I am up to it.

Slo, if you put on any more "muscle mass" we are going to have to call you the colnaginator.

Pedala, pedala, e pedala. A bike blog

I'm keeping relatively fit. Not much riding, but still skating 3x a week, and doing weights when I can. Here's the latest rub; tennis elbow. And I hate f*&^king tennis. Apparently it's from hockey. I'm abandoning the buzzing lively carbon stick for a good old peice of wood/fiberglass. Apparently it will help. Elbow doesn't bother me on the spinning bike at all though, so I did an hour or so this past weekend. Three sets of 5 min spinning, 5 min mashing, then 10 min out of the saddle hard climbing. Trying to keep the pounds at bay. I'm at 164 now, vs my 9 colli 158 lb. I swear it's all muscle though...yeah...that's it, it's all muscle. The roads will soon tell, if this snow ever melts. 25 cm two nights ago, more falling as I type.

I havn't posted but I've been busy, running mostly.

- I ran 10k on Friday 11, 180m vertical.
- biked 30 off-road on Saturday 12 (then Georgie made me run 5 more in the afternoon!).
- rested Sunday
- ran 6k Monday, tuesday and Thursday. We run the 6k in 30 minutes with 80m of vertical.
- on Friday we did 7k. I took the week end off.

Today I will take out the MTB at lunch. Slo? Beetle? Are you guys keeping fit?

Marco Pantani died a year ago today. A champion, and the greatest climber ever. Cycling has not been the same.

Another fantastic day. 12-14° and Sunny. I went to the Foresta di Mercadante for the first time with Ignaz'. Did 30k of which 20 on trails. Up and down . Some mud. To bad I forgot the GPS. I turned up the dampening on my scarab forks, it made my bike a lot more stable, especially on fast bumpy descents. All I need to do is ditch the fat hutchingson tires that just collect mud. Kilos of it blocking the wheel. George dragged me out for a 5k run afterwards. I was whipped.

A gorgeous sunny day, about 10°c. Ran 10k @ lunch in a leisurely 55 minutes. 180m vertical with some sprinting into the hills.
It's good to be alive.

I was out on the MTB today at lunch. 30 min at moderate intesity. 2°c. The legs are gone. two months downtime has taken its toll. E' tutto da rifare. I think Bartoli said that. Hopefully I can squeeze in a longer ride this week end. I should be ready to roll by April... sud

9k run today at lunch. 120m of climbing. Nice and easy. sud

Wow. Even though the writing on the wall said "don't try this at home honey".
Complimenti. I can't imagine going up with those gears, I was making pretty heavy use of my 39x25 on campo imperatore last year. I woud'nt mind something even more agile for that kind of climbing.
Today I ran 8k beside my son, on his bike. It was cool and drizzeling. There is snow on the "colline". It felt pretty good though. sud.

For slo: Hai voluto la bicicletta... Adesso pedala.

Sounds like you training is off to a good start.
Strega yes, and Primitivo. I am starting to feel human for the first time in a while. Though I still cough up interesting stuff. The last piece was shaped like a dodo.
I figure i am still several days away from basic training. The big problem is getting my lungs clear and taking stock of the weight gained in almost two months of inactivity.
I doubt i will be able to keep up with you, but I will train hard to meet my main objective before the 9 colli: Climb the block.

Some questions:
- What is the total climbing per percorso.
- How many time per week do you train, how many hours per session.
- Also to make sense of your MHR, what's your age and resting heart rate
(warning, do not measure the morning after drinking with slo and beets).
later,

Minchia, indeed. What the f*&k sort of route is this? Seems to go almost up to Campo. Then, if that's not enough climbing, you pop over to Blockhaus for a bit more? Where is Rigo Piano? Must be the junction before the last big push up to Campo Imp. At least you're spared the last 10 km or so of 11%, he said in a hopeful-yet-uncertain tone.

A heads up for Dernygianno, look at the 3% climb from Bivio Castelli, mark off one and a half little squares along the x axis (1.5 km). That is the Bayview extension climb! Get to know your Tacx Mr. Dernygianno, there are no hill repeats in TO to prepare you.

But, take heart, I don't see Filetto on this route. This must be the "easy" route to Campo. No such thing on Blockhaus...pedala pedala pedala.

Sud, what's that Italian expression again "You wanted the bike, now pedal it!" (translation back to Italian, please)
